BRIGGS
Starting his first role in New Zealand, Andrew is excited to discover our native species and bring his experience in freshwater and wetland ecology.
Andrew joined 4Sight in October 2022 as a Senior Ecologist in the Ecology team, based in the Tauranga office. His primary focus is freshwater and wetland ecology.
Andrew is from South Africa, with his role at 4Sight being his first in New Zealand. He holds a Master’s degree (MSc) in Conservation Ecology from the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa. Over his six-year career, he has been involved in over 150 specialist ecological projects to date, covering a wide range of habitats and client requirements. In his specialist subjects, he has competency certifications for macroinvertebrate sampling and assessment of wetland habitats in a South African context, and is looking to complete relevant competencies in New Zealand, such as the Electric Fishing Machine Operators Course.
Shortly into his career, Andrew realised the duty an Ecologist has in being a custodian of the natural environment with due consideration to necessary development. He enjoys the variation in the environments that he gets to work in, and balance of his time in the office and out in the field.
Making an impact on the environment through educating others is a passion of Andrew’s, leading him to participate in two environmental education days for children in South Africa, where he explained the importance of wetlands and estuaries. Outside of his work, Andrew’s hobbies are sports and adventure orientated, including golf, cricket, mountain biking, canoeing/kayaking, camping, hiking and fishing, as well as exploring New Zealand.
