Ben is focused on achieving balanced outcomes and looking for creative solutions.

Ben joined 4Sight in May 2023 as the Northland Planning Manager in the Planning and Policy team.

Ben is a highly experienced resource management planner, with a track record of leading and delivering a wide range of resource management outcomes. With over 20 years’ experience working in local government resource management, his experience includes all facets of planning and policy development, including stakeholder and Māori engagement, gained through a range of roles such as Policy Manager, Policy Specialist and various Resource Consent positions.

Having a strong background in natural resource management policy, with a core focus on coastal, freshwater and Māori policy, enabled Ben to lead the preparation of the Proposed Regional Plan for Northland – from review of the previous regional plans through to Environment Court appeals. He has also been involved in Treaty of Waitangi claim negotiations and Māori/council co-management arrangements. Through leading people, programmes and projects, Ben has formed positive connections and relationships with local councils, regional councils, central government, key stakeholders, industry players and tangata whenua.

Ben is a born and bred Northlander, who has a real passion for Northland’s people and natural environment, particularly the coast. Outside of work, Ben is involved in football coaching and administration and watching his three children play sports, and when he gets a moment, fishing and surfing. He enjoys spending time at their family bach at Whananaki (a small coastal settlement on Northland’s east coast).
