I was lucky to join the mayor, our client, and project partners along with iwi and members of the public in attending the Oneroa cycle and walkway opening over the weekend.
Council’s vision was to develop a high quality, culturally significant scenic cycle and walkway along the beachfront, and I would agree it’s one of the best I’ve seen. The walkway was packed on Saturday and there were already tonnes of people using it.
This project is closely linked with the Tairāwhiti Navigations project which tells stories of navigation and settlement relevant to the area with a Māori design element. It showcases Gisborne’s beautiful coastal environment, incorporating designs by local artist Derek Lardelli, providing enjoyment for both residents and visitors.
If you are in that part of the world I would definitely recommend having a wander along its 3kms to enjoy the view.
