4Sight Consulting assisted Calder Stewart Development in securing non-notified resource consent to develop a new office building for AWS Legal in Invercargill.

The development required the demolition of two existing buildings, one of which was included within the District Plan as a 'Site of Local Significance' for its architectural and historical value. 4Sight provided the technical heritage assessment to support the application that was proportionate to the loss of heritage.

Working with Calder Stewart and Invercargill City Council, a design response was achieved that linked the new office building to the original building through ground floor aluminium screens that captured details of the existing architecture. The screens and an associated interpretive panel retain the connection to the site's heritage values within the new office building. Calder Stewart also preserved other building elements of heritage value during the demolition process so they could be re-used in other buildings.
