Significant Natural Areas (SNAs) were identified across the Hamilton area in 2010, but historically they focussed on botanical values (indigenous plant species).

Hamilton City Council (HCC) is currently reviewing this dataset, and 4Sight are assisting by reviewing the historical dataset and updating it to include fauna habitat values, particularly threatened species such as long-tailed bats and black mudfish. The project involves updating the geodatabase, ground-truthing, landowner liaison and technical reporting, as well as inputs into policy planning and restoration priorities.
