dean
A good communicator and people-focussed, Hamish believes that the best environmental outcomes are built on strong and resilient relationships.
Hamish joined the 4Sight team in June 2021 as a Principal Ecology Consultant based in our Tauranga office. He has a wide range of experience in ecology and resource management gained from 18 years working in consultancy, not-for-profit environmental organisations, and regional council.
Hamish has worked in a wide range of terrestrial habitats across Aotearoa on projects involving significance assessment, vegetation survey and classification, wetland survey and management, ecological restoration and re-creation, fauna survey, catchment management, and impact assessment.
Hamish’s experience has ranged from surveying giant Powelliphanta snails on the Stockton Plateau on New Zealand’s West Coast to vegetation monitoring in the Far North, peat lake restoration in the Waikato, to estuarine restoration in the Bay of Plenty. It also includes riparian planting in rural Bay of Plenty, stream restoration in urban Auckland, impact assessment to enhancement and a whole lot in between. Hamish has worked with businesses, local and central government, landowners, Tangata Whenua, and community care groups during this time.
His experience working in ‘hands on’ roles combined with his experience in team leadership and providing strategic environmental advice to clients and stakeholders enables him to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences to deliver excellent environmental outcomes.
Hamish’s ecological and resource management experience is backed by an MSc in Biological Sciences which focussed on ecological restoration, and a BSc in Ecology and Zoology.
Hamish loves being in the outdoors; whether it’s sailing, hunting, tramping, mountain biking or running, heading for the hills, into the bush or out on the water - it all makes him happy.
