Jacques Jansen van Rensburg

From a background in urban development from South Africa to leading large teams in New Zealand, Jacques leads our Auckland Planning team.

Jacques joined 4Sight in November 2022 as the Auckland Planning Manager in the Planning team, based in the Auckland office. As the Auckland Planning Manager, Jacques utilises his people and technical leadership skills, both internally to lead the Auckland Planning team and externally to form strong clients relationships. He embraces a culture of collaboration and integration across the different areas of the business.

Some of the highlights of Jacques’ planning career to date include people management and leading teams, mentoring upcoming planners, project management of various urban planning projects, facilitating strategic planning outcomes in the implementation of new planning legislation, being a legal advisor for statutory bodies, and facilitating applications at hearings and projects of various scales.

Prior to joining 4Sight, Jacques worked at Auckland Transport as a Team Leader in Development Planning. In this role he was responsible for overseeing the assessment and review of Resource Consent applications covering transport/land use/spatial integration impacts of large complex developments across Auckland. This was Jacques’ first role in New Zealand and his previous experience is from South Africa, where he was a Principal Planner working in urban planning.

Having an interest in how spaces relate to one another with regards to how we live work and play drew Jacques to a career in Planning. Jacques views that seeking balanced growth and the interaction between the natural environment, built environment and economy is vital for urban development to be sustainable.

Outside of work you can find Jacques at his favourite regional park – Wenderholm and spending time with his family.
