James Lunday.png

with 30+ years of experience, james is an industry leader in urban design delivery.

James is an Urban Designer/Urban Planner with 38 years’ experience. His strong background in Urban Planning and Design, Landscape Planning and Architectural Design has enabled him to fully grasp the challenges of creating Urban Spatial Plans, Masterplans, City Revitalisation Programmes, and Retail Planning, as well as leading the multi-disciplinary teams necessary to deliver planned outcomes and infrastructure interventions.

Since arriving in New Zealand in 1990, he has established himself as a leader in Urban Design delivery. He has been trained in, and always practices, an inclusive and consultative approach to design. High-profile consultation is a specialisation. James has the ability to move through a process from consultation that elicits stakeholder issues, to engagement that unlocks stakeholder aspirations.

He has appeared often in a professional capacity in newspapers, magazines, radio, film and television, and is confident, competent and professional in fronting projects as a public spokesperson. His values are very much founded on the principles sometimes expressed as the quadruple bottom line. That is, the general and equal increase in society of economic capital, social capital, ecological capital and cultural capital.

James has been a member of Manukau and Auckland Urban Design Panels, and an Urban Design adviser to NZTA. He appears as an expert witness in the Environment Court and is regarded as a leader in the Urban Design profession.
