Enabling coastal infrastructure always presents a range of technical challenges, and the Kōpū Marine Precinct was no exception.

Granted by the EPA under the Covid-19 Recovery (Fast Track Consenting) Act 2020, this project will provide for the development of a new commercial slipway/haul-out facility, an 80m long commercial wharf rated for a working load of 20 Tonne, a two-lane recreational boat ramp, and a recreational car park for approximately 45 cars and trailers.

Located adjacent to the Marine Services Zone at Kōpū, the project will provide for the ongoing growth and economic success of the Marine Servicing industry, both in Kōpū and across the wider area. It will enhance access and opportunities for the aquaculture industry and will address existing health and safety issues by providing a fit for purpose, all tide access recreational boat ramp. The project is expected to generate approximately 108 long term jobs and provide economic growth for the wider region.

Engaging the new National Environmental Standards for Freshwater, the Waikato Regional Plan, the Waikato Regional Coastal Plan and the Thames-Coromandel District Plan, the project was technically challenging. The 4Sight team embraced the challenge and worked tirelessly under tight timeframes to ensure the success of the project.
