Kimi Ora Community School is situated in the heart of Flaxmere / Pā Harakeke. The school is currently working with the Ministry of Education to build new and innovative indoor learning spaces for their tamariki. When planning their buildings they saw schools elsewhere starting to improve not just their indoor spaces, but also their outdoor spaces via a new flax-roots initiative called Te Puna Taiao.
Kimi Ora has embraced the Te Puna Taiao Kaupapa which aims to transform the outdoor areas of schools in Aotearoa into places that are both fantastic outdoor play and learning environments for tamariki during school-time, as well as beautiful enriched playgrounds and gardens for the wider community outside of school hours.
4Sight was excited to come on board with this project coming up with a collaborative design approach with Te Puna Taiao and Kimi Ora staff, students, parents and the broader Flaxmere community.
4Sight led several design hui and wānanga to develop an over-arching design concept resulting in a full construction package of design drawings.
See the e-book below to see the overall concept design for Kimi Ora's grounds.
