4Sight works with the aquaculture industry and regional councils to provide expert advice for effective and efficient environmental management of proposed and existing marine farms. Our in-house expertise allows us to cover a broad range of ecological and related aspects impacted by marine farms. This includes water quality, benthic habitats and ecology, marine mammals, seabirds, biosecurity, and coastal processes. Our experience covers finfish and shellfish farming, most recently, mussel and mussel spat farming. We have prepared resource consents for marine farms and also assisted councils in assessing offshore farms' applications across New Zealand.
Our team of experts have longstanding relationships with clients and can:
-
Conduct ecological assessments of existing and proposed marine farms;
-
Prepare resource consents, environmental monitoring plans and reports;
-
Prepare supporting information for, and participate in stakeholder engagement and consultation;
-
Prepare and present technical evidence for council hearings and environment court; and
-
Monitor farm performance in terms of resource consent conditions designed to avoid or mitigate ecological and water quality effects.
Our science-based approach is inclusive of regional authority requirements, client capabilities and expectations and industry best practice to develop balanced outcomes while keeping the focus on solutions that result in the sustainable use of the environment.
