an Outdoor enthusiast, Matthew is a passionate ecologist who hails from canada orginally.
Predominantly working in the freshwater ecology space but also providing support to our wider Ecology team, Matthew joined 4Sight in May 2023 as an Ecologist based in our Tauranga office.
Matthew moved to New Zealand from Canada in October 2022 and loves working in a field he is passionate about. He achieved a Diploma in Renewable Resources from Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) as well as a Bachelor’s Degree (BSc) in Conservation Biology from the University of Alberta (UofA) in Canada. While at University, he worked as a lab coordinator in the Fisheries and Aquatic Conservation Lab. His roles in the lab included planning and executing various research projects and sampling plans that involved electrofishing, eDNA, kick netting, and other sampling methods. Matt is excited to dive into freshwater work in New Zealand and continue to develop his skills in a new country.
Early in life, Matt realised his love for the outdoors and was quick to pursue that passion. He enjoys learning as much about the environment as he can and enjoys being out in the field, working with and appreciating nature. He is motivated to continue learning as much about New Zealand and Ecology as he can. When he's not in the office or out in the field, you will most likely find him surfing, skiing, playing ice hockey, fishing, hiking, or backpacking.
