4Sight was involved in consenting the new office building for ACC in Dunedin. Ngāi Tahu Property and ACC Investments partnered to deliver the project.
The four-storey building, which has been designed to accommodate up to 650 staff, will allow ACC to integrate their Dunedin based operations into a single purpose-built office building.
The building went through an extensive co-design process with Warren and Mahoney Architects and Aukaha to enable the cultural values and narrative that contribute to the significance of its location to be captured within the building design. The design response is grounded in the renewal of the story of the placename - Ōtepoti and the narrative is therefore captured within the building using an aluminium and fritted glass façade to create a multi-scale woven pattern to reference a flax poti.
As the site is within a commercial heritage precinct and is surrounded by a number of scheduled heritage buildings, the streetscape and heritage character values were of significant importance, and a comprehensive pre-application process was undertaken with Dunedin City Council staff.
