Transpower required resource consent for a new 26-metre high mid-span pole along the existing Bunnythorpe-Mangahao transmission lines to resolve an under clearance violation at the Manawatu River crossing point in Linton, Palmerston North. Transpower consequently engaged 4Sight's Landscape Architecture team to assist them with assessing the potential visual impact of the new pole at the proposed site and to carry out a broader landscape analysis which included mapping, photomontages and a landscape overview assessment.
The intention of the landscape advice, given by 4Sight, was to provide the consent authorities with an overview assessment of the statutory, landscape and visual context of the new pole infrastructure. The site analysis, modelling and photomontages found that the proposed pole would be of an appropriate form, scale and design so as to be consistent with the existing transmission lines, of which it will be part of.
Resource Consent was successfully obtained in early November 2020, with upgrade works already underway.
